I traveled on the Magellan, a ship that carried the explorer Ferdinand Magellan back to Europe after circumnavigating the globe. The Magellan was specifically outfitted for penguin research.

These birds are known to dive down to depths of up to 3,000 feet. At those depths, they are literally taking their lives in their hands. It's not inconceivable that these birds needed some psychological help as well.
